20 Random Questions is a feature on Sisterspooky that will show you a different side to authors you may already know and introduce new ones. I ask 20 very Random Questions and they answer them. Simple as that. The idea was inspired from a mixture of things in my head and a random question asked by Jim over at YA Contemporary
Today Kendra Leighton is on the Sisterspooky blog to answer 20 Random Questions. I hope they aren’t to stressful or scary!
If you were ruler of the world what laws would you make?
No more war. A ban on stepping on/poisoning snails, because they’re cute and can’t run away. A copy of every new YA book released to be sent to me, for my reading pleasure.
If you were a super hero what powers would you have? Limit to three powers!
1) Time-pausing powers so I could write as much as I wanted every day.
2) Super speed-reading powers so I could get through my ever-growing TBR list.
3) The ability to create unlimited super-powers for myself (is that cheating? 🙂
What’s your favourite cheese and why?
Do cheesy romantic scenes in books count? If we’re talking real cheese, then cheddar. Posh cheeses are all very nice, but cheddar goes with everything.
If you were an animal what would you be and why?
Assuming I had a nice owner, I’d be a cat. They get to do what they want, get fed, and no-one expects anything from them. Plus it looks so cozy just *being* a cat, like being your own cushion.
If you could ask your future self one question what would it be?
How’s the writing thing working out?
Have you ever entered a talent contest? What was your talent and did you win?
Hmm… I never entered a talent contest. I was runner-up in a national short-story writing competition when I was 10, though. Writers with fancy awards—you ain’t got nothin’ on me!
What’s your favourite type of Pie?
If you could steal one thing without consequence what would it be and why?
Margaret Atwood’s brain, so everything I wrote would be a masterpiece.
Who’s your favourite Villain and why?
Mayor Prentiss from Patrick Ness’s Chaos Walking trilogy. He’s so complex. Also, I imagine him being devilishly handsome.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten and what did you think of it?
Barbecued insects, when I lived in China. They were crunchy on the outside, with a sudden squish when you bit into them. *shudders*
If you had a warning label, what would yours say and why?
‘If sleeping, do not wake.’ I try to be nice in the daytime, but I’m a monster if you wake me when I’m sleeping.
What’s your preferred playing piece in monopoly and why?
The dog, because I love animals, and I don’t especially love hats or irons.
What was the last thing you ate?
Who would you want to be trapped on a desert island with? Pick no more than five people!
Bear Grylls (for his outdoor survival skills), Lauren Oliver (to tell me stories), Margaret Atwood (for intellectual stimulation), my mum (to make me food), and my boyfriend.
What was the last thing you dressed up as for fancy dress and what was the occasion?
I dressed as an Egyptian for an Egypt-themed fundraising day at my work last year. The world needs more occasions for fancy-dress.
What was your first job?
Working in a newsagents at weekends when I was 16. I packed bags of penny sweets and got to read magazines under the counter when the shop was empty. Most laid-back job I’ve ever had.
What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?
Moving to China on my own when I finished university. ‘Character building’ is a cliché, but that’s what it was.
What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
If you want something, go for it. Life’s too short to be scared.
Thanks for having me, Laura!
